Higher education means education at the higher institutions like universities. It is the education after the intermediate level. Higher education gives Bachelor's and Master's degrees to students. Apart from universities, some colleges give higher education
too.
The higher education in our country is defective on many counts. First of all, it is not vocational or job oriented. So, the students get degrees in some subjects but do not get employments in the job market. So, it creates a huge number of educated youths but they remain unemployed. Moreover, they earn degrees on Bangla without knowing English. This is another cause of their not getting a good job.
In the past, some colleges were named university colleges without upgrading them to the level of an university. The infrastructures teaching staff other facilities remained almost the same as before. Moreover, these institutions could not attach meritorious students. Therefore, the degrees imparted through these university colleges were not up to the standard.
In the recent past, as many as 60 private universities have been established in our country. But most of them do not fulfil the basic requirements of the quality of education.
They suffer from the shortage of teachers, scarcity of infrastructure and problem of accommodation. They cannot impart proper and standard education to the students. So, again they create educated but unemployed youths.
The public universities have plunged into hundreds of problem. Political programmes hamper academic atmosphere, teachers are engaged in politics; class rooms are crowed and terrorist activities lead to the frequent closure of universities.
As a result, session jam is a regular feature. Moreover, good teachers go to private universities to earn more money neglecting their main duty and responsibility. Some of the teachers are more busy with project works than taking classes.
There are a large number of teachers who never enter the classes but remain busy with politics and groupings. So, the quality of education is suffering and the students are getting only certificates which are nothing more than the colour pieces of papers.
In the private universities, students of only rich people can afford to study, because it needs a lot of money. At the same time, merit is often overlooked if a student can pay a lot of money for admission.
Again the purpose of education is not to render any one unfit for practical life. Its aim is to make men fit to live a better and fuller life. This life does not usually mean a life away from society; they must not neglect their social duties. They must learn to love others especially those who call for love and sympathy. Its the changes of time we approach the team work and proof all the sympathy of our education. The education is a backbone of nation. Its make with us when nobody here we grow up this community. When we go shed all misshapen are finished to hunger. So that we improve the education, the education express.
Therefore, the higher education in our country os defective. The only way to get rid of this situation is to introduce vocation or need based education for the development of our nation.
